2009 Field Season Report: FPC's Best Year to Date
A recap of the 2009 FPC field season, including trail maintenance and habitat restoration accomplishments.
As the year begins to wind down, we wanted to take the opportunity to share our appreciation for all of the great work accomplished in Forest Park this year. It was easily our best year for on-the-ground stewardship, and a great deal of credit goes out to our growing corps of volunteers, members, and business partners.
In 2009, more than 1,500 volunteers worked with the Forest Park Conservancy to help improve the trails and overall ecological health of Forest Park. In total, FPC logged over 10,000 hours of trail maintenance and habitat restoration this year. We were also fortunate to work with more than 20 business and community groups, including:
- The Standard
- Keen Footwear
- Conservation Alliance
- Habitat for Humanity
- Multnomah Learning Center
- Intel
Here is a quick rundown of our major on the ground accomplishments:
- Comprehensive trail maintenance on over 20 miles of trail
- More than 1300 native trees and shrubs planted at various restoration sites
- Over 500 feet of split rail fence installed in Upper and Lower Macleay Parks as part of a restoration project along Balch Creek
- English ivy removed from more than 1,000 mature trees
There is much more, of course. To view and/or print a copy of our 2009 field crew report, please click here.
Thank you to all who offered your time and financial support to help this important work come to fruition. We are extremely proud of our accomplishments, and with your support, look forward to doing even more great work in 2010 and beyond.
