The Forest Park Conservancy is currently hiring:
Trail & Restoration Coordinator (2 positions)
FPC is looking for two talented individuals to add to our seasonal field crew. The Trail &
Restoration Coordinators will work primarily in the field as part of a
five-person crew. Among other tasks, primary duties include working to
maintain, repair and improve existing trails; removing non-native
invasive species; planting native trees and shrubs; and, helping to
build community through a wide array of volunteer-driven stewardship
projects.The Trail & Restoration Coordinator will also engage in
community outreach, helping to recruit volunteers for the Forest Park
Conservancy.
Forest Park is a 5,000+ acre natural area park located fully within the
city limits of Portland, Oregon. The park features a trail system of
70+ miles and features an impressive array of native flora and fauna.
These are AmeriCorps LINKS positions. Service dates will run from March
2nd through July 26th. Benefits include a taxable living allowance of
$4,526 divided into monthly increments and an education award of $1,800
upon completion of the service term.
General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to):
1. Perform duties related to comprehensive trail management, including
some related restoration work (removal of non-native invasive species
and/or planting of native trees and shrubs).
2. Help train and supervise Forest Park Conservancy volunteers, including the general public and various business partners.
3. Engage in public outreach to or represent FPC at public tabling opportunities and/or guided hikes.
4. Assist in recording data and/or writing up of daily logs and reports.
5. Complete and submit all necessary LINKS AmeriCorps Program paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
6. Attend and complete LINKS AmeriCorps Program orientation and enrollment session.
7. Wear an appropriate LINKS identifier and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.
Requirements:
1. Must be available to work 1-2 Saturdays per month.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3. U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
4. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award.
5. Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
6. Submit to a criminal history background check and National Sex Offender Registry search.
7. Regular and reliable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications (not essential):
1. Previous trail management and/or restoration experience.
2. Previous experience working with volunteers.
3. Wilderness Medical Training: Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder.
4. Access to a personal vehicle.
