More Volunteers Than Ever: Impact of FPC’s Stewardship Program in 2019

Forest Park ConservancyStewardship

At FPC, we love volunteers, and we know that Forest Park’s trails and habitat love our volunteers too. In 2019, more than 2,200 FPC volunteers helped us accomplish our goals. This is our largest number of volunteers to date, and we are so grateful!

The Forest Park Conservancy’s Stewardship Program’s intention is to inspire action and ensure Forest Park is protected for current and future generations. Forest Park is huge, and our budget is not limitless. Cue our amazing volunteers!

In 2019, our volunteers logged about 6,400 hours of their precious time to protect, restore, and connect people to Forest Park. They expanded our capacity to care for the Park and ensured we met our shared commitments with Portland Parks to implement certain projects. We could not have done it without your support – thank you!

Stewardship is not limited to pulling invasive species or raking the Park’s soft-surface trail. Our Stewardship Program also aims to ensure the next generation is connected to nature and will continue to give back to support the environment, and take advantage of Forest Park as a resource to the community.

In 2019 we co-led hikes with the International School to lead 154 K-5th grade students aged 5 to 12-year-olds, along with 24 teachers and chaperons, joined Forest Park Conservancy staff for two days of learning and hiking in nature through Forest Park down the Birch and Lower Macleay trails. We had a blast.

We hope that by investing our time in recruiting and training our volunteers and connecting with our community, you’ll come back and join us again.
