Trail Tip Tuesday, Jan. 26th, ’21

Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

There is still a good amount of storm damage in the park. We’re working hard to solve these issues. Users might come across puddles, trees, water flow, or other obstacles.

Please know that trails aren’t just made by trail workers – they’re constantly being made and re-made and maintained by peoples’ feet. Please be especially conscious of not creating more damage accidentally by avoiding minor trail obstacles. Yes – sometimes that means staying on the trail right on through that mud puddle! Waterproof shoes and caution are all you need to avoid eroding sides of the trail.

When we (and the hikers that came before and after us) try to go around minor trail obstacles, human-caused erosion can create costly damage.

Closed:
– Barbara Walker Crossing and nearby sections of Wildwood Trail are temporarily closed.
– Wildwood Trail from mile 14.2 to 15.4 is closed to address trail conditions. Please follow the detour route on Koenig Trail, Leif Erikson, and Cleator Trail.

Caution:
– Wildwood Trail from NW Cornell Road to Pittock Mansion
-There is bridge damage on Wildwood Trail at mile 10. Proceed with caution.
-There is a small landslide towards the bottom of Newton Road, about half a mile from the Newton Road/BPA Road Trailhead on St. Helens Rd/Hwy 30. The landslide is located at a creek crossing. Please use caution when using the trail in this area.

Thank you, and have a great week!
