On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Forest Park Conservancy (FPC) staff, family, and friends from the Indigenous community met for an intimate gathering in the Ancient Forest Preserve to give thanks and blessing to the journey of this amazing, living landscape.
The Ancient Forest Preserve is an area of old-growth forest just north of Forest Park that FPC owns. We are working closely with the Indigenous community to ensure that stewardship of this land centers traditional ecological knowledge, Indigenous perspectives, and living with the land instead of managing the land.
We were grateful to share in the experience of that day and look forward to working together to care for this land now and into the future.
