What is Brush-a-Thon?
FPC is responsible for brushing all soft-surface trails in Forest Park during the summer stewardship season. During the brushing season, we remove trail debris and trim excessive vegetation along over 40 miles of trail. Why do we brush the trails? Brushing work keeps the trails clear for park users and helps prevent erosion.
To tackle such a massive undertaking, every summer FPC holds the Brush-a-Thon to bring everyone together on the trails to give back to Forest Park. We all love Forest Park, and it’s up to all of us to help give back to it!
This year, Brush-a-Thon is on July 16th.
Why do you need my help?
Land stewardship is truly a community effort. With over 5,200 acres of park to cover the work we do would not be possible without the help of our volunteers. As part of our work we want to actively cultivate a community of people who care as much as we do about Forest Park and who work with us on the trails.
Currently, we need all hands on deck to help achieve our goals for this brushing season. We typically aim to finish our brushing efforts in early August, but we need a lot more help this summer to reach that goal. By helping us achieve this goal, our trails team can devote their time and energy to other trail projects this summer.
What can I do to help?
Join us at this year’s Brush-a-Thon! We are aiming to have over 100 volunteers join us for the event and help us brush, but we need more people to sign up. Sign up for a shift at Brush-a-Thon and we will see you there!
If you can’t join us, we would still love to have you at one of our other volunteer work parties. We have at minimum one event a week and we would be delighted if you could join us.
Whether you can join Brush-a-Thon or not, please share this event with your friends and family and encourage them to join us! Volunteer events are a fun way to connect with the community and give back to the park.
You know what they say, the more the merrier! introduce people who might be more new to Forest Park. We have such an amazing community, so the more the merrier!
