Rake-a-thon @ Lower Saltzman – Saturday, November 18th, 2023
This is a sign-up for the 2023 Rake-a-thon!
When: Saturday, November 18th, 2023 from 9am-12pm.
Where: Lower Saltzman Road TH
What: Come join us to rake Forest Park’s trails! When leaves are left on our trails, they hold water, hide tripping hazards, and create mud. In order to protect the trails against erosion, we work to remove all the leaves and organic matter from the trails. This keeps moisture from accumulating and breaking down the trials. However, to make sure we can accomplish all this work, we need our volunteers to help!
Join us for Rake-a-thon 2022, where we’ll be leading four groups of volunteers to rake up to 10 miles of trail in one day!
No previous experience is necessary. All tools, training, and guidance provided.
Preparation: Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and dress appropriately for the weather. Please also bring a water bottle (we will have a jug for refills). If you usually pack emergency medications such as Epi-Pens to outdoor activities, bring those along just as you normally would.
We provide: Light snacks, water, gloves, tools, training, and fun! If you have any food allergies, please let us know.
Activity info: This activity takes place outdoors. Raking work parties usually involve 3-5 miles of hiking on steep and uneven terrain, but we keep a comfortable pace and encourage breaks. Volunteers should expect to intermittently hike and use a rake for just over two hours and occasionally bend and stoop.
Masks and vaccination are not required for this activity. However, we require volunteers to stay home when feeling any symptoms of illness (regardless of COVID-19 test result) and fully support participants’ choice to wear a mask if desired.
