Thank you to everyone who joined us for Earth Day Oregon! We are so grateful to you, our community, for coming together to work with us out on the trails. At over 5,200 acres, stewarding Forest Park is truly a community effort. Our constant effort to manage invasive weeds and maintain the trails are only possible thanks to the support of our community.
On April 19 and 20th, volunteers from KEEN, Go Beyond Racing, and Alaska Airlines, as well as individuals from our community, joined us to manage invasive English ivy and conduct trail work. Altogether, around 160 volunteers joined us to celebrate Earth Day. Together we:
- Cleared 1.2 miles of trailside ivy
- Saved over a dozen trees from ivy
- Completed 1 mile of trail and tread work
- Cleared drains and restored tread along parts of the Hardesty and Wildwood trails.
Additionally, we raised almost $8,000 in donations from our business partners and individual donors! Thanks to these donors and our volunteers, we can continue our work caring for Forest Park and it will help us as we expand our work into Marquam Nature Park.
Do you want to support our work? Consider becoming a member or volunteering in the park with us. If you couldn’t make it out to Earth Day but still want to volunteer, consider joining us for National Trails Day on June 1st!
Thank you to our Earth Day Oregon Business Partners, KEEN, Alaska Airlines, and Roaming Nobles for supporting us. Additionally, thank you to Go Beyond Racing for their support as an FPC Business Member and for encouraging their race participants to join us on the trails for Earth Day.
