Community Update: PGE has Submitted their “Harborton Reliability Project” Application

Marianne WilburnUncategorized

PGE’s type III land use application for their “Harborton Reliability Project” was recently submitted to Portland’s Bureau of Development Services. You might be familiar with this project as we have previously published a statement of concern regarding it due to the impact it would have on Forest Park. This project will clear cut at least 5 acres of trees in the northern part of Forest Park. As an organization, FPC is concerned not just about the impact of 5 acres of tree removal, but the impact that will have on the local ecosystem and the species within, including the northern red-legged frog, a recognized species of concern.

This will be followed by a 21 day “completeness check” before a request for public hearing period when the application will be sent to public agencies and local community organizations (such as FPC). This is part of a full 103 day review procedure, the full schedule of which can be viewed in this pdf posted by the Bureau of Development Services.

While we do not currently have access to the application, if you want more information we recommend that you review PGE’s webpage with information on their application. This includes a map of the proposed 5 acre project site within Forest Park where trees would be clear-cut, a proposed project timeline, and a list of upcoming virtual meetings that are open to the public. We highly recommend that you attend one of these virtual meetings if you would like more information.

FPC will be keeping in contact with community partners and watching closely as new information becomes available to the public in anticipation of the Request for Response period. We will share any new information as we have it and will be keeping our community informed as we approach future stages of the review procedure and how you will be able to participate in this process.
