Last Call: Submit Comment on the Harborton Reliability Project Appeal!

Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

Forest Park Conservancy and the Forest Park Neighborhood Association filed an appeal last month to overturn the approval of Phase 3 of PGE’s Harborton Reliability Project. Now, we need your help. You can submit testimony before tomorrow’s appeal hearing at City Hall to help us show City Council how important Forest Park is, and to uphold the protections put in place to safeguard it. The appeal hearing begins tomorrow at 2pm at City Hall.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Submit Written Testimony (Most Important!!!): You can submit written testimony to City Hall on why PGE’s proposal should be denied. Please keep in mind that comments should focus specifically on the legal reasons that the proposal should be denied and the original decision be overturned. You can see the key talking points for this appeal below. Written testimony is our key need at the moment, so submit testimony and encourage your friends and family to submit testimony as well. Click here to submit written testimony.
  2. Give Verbal Testimony: You can also give verbal testimony in front of City Council. Click here to register to give your testimony.
  3. Rally at City Hall: There will be a rally at 1pm in front of City Hall to show our support for Forest Park. Wear green, bring a mask, and join us to rally for Forest Park! Click here for more information.

Key Talking Points:

  • Support the appeals of both Forest Park Conservancy and Forest Park Neighborhood Association
  • Reject the Hearings Officer’s decision and direct the City Attorney to write a decision based on City Staff Report recommendation of denial
  • PGE’s Harborton project is squarely in conflict with the City’s values and the local law that manages this cherished public resource – the Forest Park Natural Resource Management Plan.
    • Damage to Forest Park from the project cannot be mitigated
    • Non-park alternatives exist for locating the project elsewhere
    • The project undermines the goal of growing and protecting a self-sustaining forest
  • This Council must avoid setting a precedent of siding with a profit-seeking corporation over the expertise of the City staff report
  • Vote to protect the public good of Forest Park, support the appeal, and deny PGE’s proposal
