Earth Day Oregon Impacts

Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

Thank you to the volunteers, donors, and Business Partners who joined us to celebrate Earth Day Oregon 2022! We are proud to share the impact of this celebration with you:

  • 170 volunteers helped to remove non-native English Ivy (Hedera Helix) from Forest Park over the Earth Day weekend!
  • Pulled ivy over 1 mile of linear trail and cleared drains, removed debris, and downed trees over at least 3.24 miles of trail.
  • $10,710 was raised for the Forest Park Conservancy’s programs!

Earth Day was just the beginning. Spring marks the start of a busy season of restoration work in Forest Park and we are gearing up for a busy summer of trail work. We are so grateful to work alongside our amazing community of Forest Park stewards to increase our collective impact in this beautiful corner of our Earth.

And FPC has big plans for 2022! Guided by the goals set out in our strategic plan, Forest Park Conservancy will:

  • Empower more young diverse leaders through our Discovery Hikes, Volunteer Ambassador, and Volunteer Crew Leader Programs.
  • Partner with BIPOC- led organizations and individuals to support conservation work and provide economic, social, and ecological benefits to those communities; increase the level of culturally specific programming in the park.
  • Build capacity in the Green Jobs Workforce Program that results in increased partner participation, a long-term, reliable revenue stream, and engagement from a larger number of potential destination employers.
  • Advocate for trailhead improvements and signage that welcome diverse community groups and can be universally understood; including transportation options for increased public transportation to trailheads and/or shuttle service.
  • Provide opportunities and events for BIPOC communities to recreate and volunteer in a safe culturally relevant manner.
  • Collaborate with Portland Parks & Recreation to protect and restore Forest Park, which includes a long-term plan to transform the park’s ecological health by removing invasive species and replanting native plants.
