FPC Receives a Six-Acre Land Donation to Further the GFPCI

Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

Recently, we received an exciting donation: a six-acre wooded parcel of land off of NW Cornell Road and a $5,000 check! This generous gift came courtesy of Lucille and Gerard McAleese.

While not directly connected to Forest Park, this property is within the Greater Forest Park Conservation Initiative (GFPCI) area.  This is a wonderful piece of land to preserve and protect, consistent with the goals of the GFPCI. The GFPCI is an initiative that aims to look at the conservation of Forest Park from a broader perspective. Forest Park is not an island, but part of a broader regional ecosystem, and so by supporting this ecosystem as a whole we aim to help improve the overall resiliency and health of our region.

In accordance with these goals, we aim to hold this property, which was previously designated for timber use, and convert its designated use into conservation purposes. While there is no public access to the property, easements will allow FPC access to this property for future conservation and restoration efforts.

Thank you to Lucille and Gerard for their generous donation in support of the GFPCI, and to Stoel Rives LLP for providing pro bono legal services during this process.

If you’d like to be part of our efforts to care for Forest Park, Marquam Nature Park, and the greater Forest Park ecosystem, consider joining us out in the field!
