FPC’s Greatest Need Right Now: A Truck!

Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

FPC’s field staff works diligently in Forest Park, taking care of its vast network of trails, improving native habitat, and providing as many opportunities as possible for volunteers to engage and help us with this work. The most critical piece of equipment we need to make this work happen is our work truck, as it transports not only our field staff, but also the necessary tools and equipment we need to implement our work.

Recently, our truck incurred a major engine problem, and the cost to fix it is more than the truck is worth.

We’ve started a new fundraiser to help us buy a new truck. Our fundraising goal is $65,000, but a generous long-term sponsor is helping us jump-start this fundraiser with a donation of $20,000!

Why do we need that much money for a new truck? We need a truck that has:

  • 7’+ bed: we need enough room to carry large tools and supplies to do our work in the park.
  • 4 wheel drive: it’s ideal for inclement weather and getting up Saltzman Road Trail and Leif Erikson Trail in muddy conditions is challenging!
  • Seats for 5-6 people: we’re growing! With 5 Green Team Members, a Trails Manager, and Stewardship leads, we’ve got a lot of people to move around.
  • Liftgate: this would make it much safer to load and unload “Wendell”, our 6’7” power wheelbarrow, and rocks and lumber for building walls. These are all very heavy items!

In addition, vehicles are just expensive right now, and finding one that is also gas efficient, environmentally friendly, and will meet all of our needs isn’t cheap.

We need your help to raise the other $45,000! Donate today so we can continue to protect and restore Forest Park!

P.S. If you have a truck you would like to donate, that meets our needs listed above, please contact us today!
