Forest Park Conservancy’s All Trails Challenge 2014 is officially underway! Whether you’re new to the park or a seasoned visitor, Forest Park Conservancy challenges you to cover all 80 miles of Forest Park trail between now and October.
Many Portlanders are familiar with Lower Macleay Trail and Leif Erikson Drive, but it’s the true Forest Park connoisseur who has biked Firelane 12 or ran the northern most stretch of Wildwood Trail. No matter how many miles you cover, the goal is to get to know Forest Park more deeply, be active, and encourage friends and family to support your efforts. All the money you raise as an All Trails Challenger goes directly to the enhancement and preservation of Forest Park.
Not sure how to get started? Marcy Houle’s book One City’s Wilderness provides a strategic roadmap for hiking all the trails in Forest Park and plenty of natural and historical context to enrich the experience. This year, Marcy’s New Year’s Resolution is to complete Forest Park Conservancy’s All Trails Challenge and she is documenting her journey along the way. Check out the journal entries below to follow Marcy Houle and her husband John on their 29-hike quest. Or, start your own journey and compare notes.
