What brought you to interning here at the Forest Park Conservancy?

Forest Park is such an amazing place! Having a huge public natural space, full of plants and animals, right next to downtown is awesome. As a PGE Project Zero intern, I thought working with FPC would be a great opportunity to help preserve my favorite park in Portland.

What will you be focusing on while at the Forest Park Conservancy? What drew you to that type of “Green Job”?

While I’m working with the Forest Park Conservancy, maintaining trails will be my primary focus. I was drawn to this type of “Green Job” since I love the environment, working outdoors, and hiking. Maintaining trails involves all three! It also feels great knowing how many people use the trails I work on, and the appreciation I get from people in the park.

Before interning at the Forest Park Conservancy, what was the most unusual or interesting job or volunteer activity you’ve had?

One summer I worked as a quality control inspector for Ekuk Fisheries in Alaska. It was on a small remote island, no cell service or internet, and in eight weeks we processed around 4 million pounds of sockeye salmon.

What is your favorite quote?

”Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you” -Frank Loyd Wright

What is your personal favorite place in Forest Park? If you haven’t been yet, is there a part of Forest Park that you have heard about that you want to visit?

Lower Macleay trail to the Witch’s Castle was the first trail I hiked in Forest Park, so it feels special to me. I’m also looking forward to eventually hiking or running the full Wildwood trail.
