Forest Park ConservancyUncategorized

Mariah joined the FPC team as one of the new 2021 Green Jobs Internship and Training Program cohort members. We are so happy to have her on staff and welcome her to the Forest Park Community.

Get to know Mariah! And if you see her working in the park, make sure to stop and say hi!

What brought you to interning here at the Forest Park Conservancy?

I heard about this internship through the Green Workforce Academy Training program I did last fall where I was introduced to many different jobs in the Green Sector.

.What will you be focusing on while at the Forest Park Conservancy? What drew you to that type of “Green Job”?

Well what’s great about this internship is that we get to do many different things. Some days we’re working out in the field with volunteers, pulling ivy or brushing trails, other days I’m working with data to make a map or working with one of our partner organizations. I’ve always loved nature and I’m planning on going back to school to study environmental engineering or science. I’m drawn to this field because I want to conserve and protect the environment!

Before interning at the Forest Park Conservancy, what was the most unusual or interesting job or volunteer activity you’ve had?

The most unusual job I’ve had was when I lived in New Zealand and worked on a blueberry farm which was one of my favorite work experiences! I worked with a lot of other young travelers and we would all go swimming in the river that was on the property after work! It was a lot of fun!

What is your favorite quote?

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” – Eleanor Roosevelt

What is your personal favorite place in Forest Park? If you haven’t been yet, is there a part of Forest Park that you have heard about that you want to visit?

My favorite part of Forest Park is the Ancient Forest Preserve, which is technically right outside of the park. I like it because there are less people that come there, it’s really magical and a special place to be!
