Metro’s Community Enhancement Grant Provides Funding For Our Green Jobs Workforce Development Program

Mikey BrooksUncategorized

The Metro Central Community Enhancement Grant provides funds to communities and local organizations in the Portland area. Funding for this grant comes from a $1 fee put on each ton of waste processed at the Metro Central Transfer Station and a committee of local residents reviews the applications and selects which projects they want to fund.

14 projects were approved for 2023, and our Green Jobs Workforce Development Program (GJWDP) was one of them! FPC was awarded $30,000 to help fund our program, which helps bring BIPOC youth into the environmental workforce by providing them with full-time jobs with FPC and on-the-job education. FPC gives program participants all the experience, skills, and professional opportunities they will need to enter into green careers after they graduate from the program.

We are grateful for this funding to help us continue to empower young adults who wish to pursue jobs in the environmental field. Of course, we weren’t the only ones to receive this funding, so go check out the list of amazing local projects that this funding will help!
