With just a few days left of brushing work, our field staff and interns are moving on to a Wildwood improvement project by the end of the month!
Primarily focused between Chestnut Trail and Firelane 2, some trail armoring, grade improvements, and rock edging in this section were completed in 2018, but we still have a lot of work to do.
If you’ve hiked or run this section recently, you may have noticed some orange traffic cones where the trail crosses over two streambeds. Building better retention structures at these stream crossings is our first priority on this project, but that doesn’t mean it’s the first step; we have to improve other parts of the trail to ensure our trusty power wheelbarrow, Wendell, can make it to these sites loaded up with rocks. So this fall, you’ll see our staff (and Wendell!) working together to armor, widen, and improve the grade of Wildwood just North of Chestnut trail. Then, in the spring, we’ll tackle those stream crossings head-on.
Please take note of these areas in the park where staff are working hard on critical maintenance tasks. Delays and closures will occur in the following areas:
On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 7:30am-3:30 pm: Expect trail closures and delays on Wildwood Trail between Newton Rd and Firelane 15 (MM 26.25-28.4). Trail closures are occurring on a rolling basis and only about a mile of trail will be closed at one time.
Also on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 7:30am-3:30 pm: Expect trail closures and delays on Ridge Trail from NW Bridge Ave to Leif Erikson Dr and on Linnton Trail. Trail closures are occurring on a rolling basis and only about a mile of trail will be closed at one time.
You can always find helpful details on trail closures and delays on Portland Parks & Recreation’s website.
