Upper Macleay Trail Head

Here at the Upper Macleay Trailhead, you can get a sense for how large Forest Park is, taking the Wildwood Trail north, hiking into the Balch Creek, where the Lower Macleay Trail meets the Wildwood Trail at the Witch’s Castle, an abandoned stone house half a mile from the trailhead.

You can also explore south, taking the Wildwood Trail up into the forest, where you can reach Pittock Mansion by hiking 1.4 miles from the Upper Macleay parking lot, ascending more than 450ft into the forest’s ridge for one of the best views of the greater Portland area.
