Walk. Hike. March through History. Celebrate the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr With us.

“To fight the inequities and injustices that many of our communities face, it takes everyone one of us, showing up every day, to walk the walk together. The MLK March is a reminder of that and was co-created in collaboration with our amazing partner Love is King, who we are honored to stand and walk with on this long journey.“ -Renée Myers, FPC Executive Director

Last year, we partnered with our friends at Love is King to host an event to honor and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement through a re-enactment of the Selma bridge crossing. We brought community leaders and people from all walks of life together to celebrate and share in that experience together, and the positive reception we had was overwhelming! So this year, we’re doing it again.

We will once again be crossing the St. John’s Bridge to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. this Saturday, January 21st. We’ll begin promptly at 9:00 am with a short presentation on the civil rights movement, Bloody Sunday, and the march of Martin Luther King Jr. from Selma to Montgomery, crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Afterward, we will march across the St. John’s Bridge to reenact that historic moment in the Civil Rights Movement.

FPC is a proud partner and supporter of Love is King, so we are excited to work with them again on this year’s event. Love is King is an organization that works to squash peoples’ fear in the outdoors and provide equitable access to outdoor space. We are happy to support that mission and to be an advocate for Love is King and for all folks of all walks to be able to join us in the outdoors.

Want to join us? Sign up today to help us estimate how many people to expect. This event is free and open to the public, so invite your family and friends to join us!
